The Truth

Thought you saw the truth in someone’s eyes
Then find out it was all a lie.
Ever had someone change from friend to a foe
As the world around you is stuck on go?
You want to keep dreaming a wonderful dream
To realize later it's not what it seems.
You wanted to run but found you can’t hide
In a room where there no one there by your side.
I’ve been where you’ve been;
I’ve seen what you’ve seen,
So my word of advice- for your life please take care
What you have now might not always be there

Life Long Dream

As you enter the classroom
Laughing and joking with your friends,
I see you break away from the group.
You’re headed my way;
You stop to talk to me.
It only last a few moments,
But I feel as if I rule the world,
And I have accomplished a life long dream.

Now and Then

Now and then there’s an urge
To someday meet a guy
Who will put a smile on your face
And a spark in your eye.

Tight as a knot
We are bound together.
Although we are still young,
We’ll be friends forever.
So many memories
Even more to be made.
The tears and laughter
May they never fade.
The parties, the fun,
The jokes played at school,
The times when we agreed,
What was and wasn’t cool.
I hope that I never loose you
Because you’re my best friend.
I know we’ll always stick together
Till the very end!!

A Love

While other girls prey
For a love that’s true.
When I prey at night,
I thank god for you.
Life is short,
Don’t ever waste it.
Life is swee,
Take time to taste it.
Life is a journey
Find the right path.
Life is entertaining,
Don’t be afraid to laugh.
Life is for good times,
Make them last.
Life has its bad times,
Put them in the past,
But most importantly
Life is what YOU make it!

True Friend

When you’re all alone
And feeling down,
You need someone
To change your frown.
She’ll make you laugh
When you want to cry.
You have to tell the truth
Cuz she knows when you lie.
You can count on her;
She can count on you.
When she says, “I promise…”
You know that’s true.
She’s there by your side
No matter what you do.
She’s more than a friend;
She’s one who’s always true.

~Poetry~ by HowlingKittens7

Only

Only as high as I reach can I grow.
Only as far as I seek can I go.
Only as deep as I look can I see.
Only as much as I dream can I be.

My Mother

Who ran to help me when I fell,
And some pretty story tell,
Or kiss the place to make it well?
My mother!

Time Alone

Friends understand
When you want to stay home.
No, you’re not mad
You just need time alone.

Have Faith

Have faith in tomorrow,
For it can bring better days
Never wish for yesterday
For it has gone its separate ways,
Believe in today
For it’s what you’re living now,
And dare to dream all your dreams
For it’s not why, but how.

One slice at a time.

Of pearly white.

Through the tunnel
Of fright.

And easy to fall.
Tricks are easy to us all.

All I am is filled with fluff.
Every night I sit upon your bed.
Sometimes I’m decorative,

And other times I’m just abused.
What am I?

The different images I’ll always be.

On one end I stick,
On the other I turn,

I am fashionable but yet ugly.
I protect like a suit of amour.

Warm and inviting.
Squishy and hard.
Many people love me,
With loads of dark,
Plentiful mush.
Good with holidays or
Just a midnight snack.

Barbed Wire

By: NatureGrl

Horse high,
Pig tight, and bull strong.
I was quicker and easier to put up,
And cheaper and stronger,
Than regular wire too.

I made settlement on the frontier
Not a dream, but a reality.
Before me farmers lacked protection,
From those wild ‘n crazy bulls.

Also called “bob wire” and “Devils rope”.
As those Native Americans called it,
When they ran into it hunting.

Sadly you people used me for evil,
You used me,
In those two cold and bloody,
Wars,
To keep your infantry safe.
Man ‘o live,
What you people would do,
To win a disagreement.

Even through all the evil,
And pain,
There are good things,
That came of me:
You humans use me at places like,
Construction sites, storage yards,
And government outposts.

I keep citizens,
And government equipment safe,
From your wild ‘n crazy gangs.

Used to keep cattle out,
But now I’m used to keep it in!
Wow how times have changed!

I mean, if it weren’t for me you people
Would not have such big settlements
Out west.
You would not have found certain,
Natural resources,
And all that rich land
Would be owned by the cattle,
Indians and cowboys.

Henry M. Rose,
My original inventor,
Demonstrated homemade barb wire,
At the local county fair in Illinois.
“Horse high, pig tight….”

After seeing the exhibit,
Joseph Farwell Glidden,
Jacob Hash,
And Isaac L. Ellwood
All went home,
With ideas on improving,
Roses Brainchild.
ME.

Glidden and Hash,
Both sent in patent applications.
Glidden won the race.
Leaving the real inventor Rose,
With no credit.

Barbwire was inspired by a shrub,
Osage Orange.
A slow growing plant with,
Greenish-yellow fruit,
Short trunk with crooked branches.
It had hard and durable,
Yellow wood with thorny twigs.
“The living fences”,
Found in the west,
Named after Osage Indians.

I brought an end,
To open range for cattle.
I was used on the plains instead of
Regular fencing materials
Because they were scarce on
The Great American plain.

“Fence wars” were fought,
between non-fence owners or “Fence cutters”,
And fence owners.
“Fence Owners”
Went around cutting holes,
In newly hung wire.
OUCH!!!

While wars were fought on the plains,
Manufactures in the east
Were fighting over,
Different patents
For new barbed wire.

Eventually the wars,
Stopped upon the plains.
The non-fence owners eventually,
Excepted the fact
That barbwire was the answer
To settling the plains,
And that their herds
Would run into it once,
Then never run into it again.

Barbed Wire,
Is my name and
Whether it is keeping it in or out,
Keepin’ cattle away,
Is my game.
